Sync Audio tested Moonbase as a customer before becoming one

Sync Audio develops innovative audio tools for sound design, post-production, and music production. The company's focus is offering tools that introduce unique workflows and entirely new ways of manipulating audio. Their plugin lineup includes Fractiv and MegaMod, with more innovative features in development.

The previous setup

James and his team considered building their own licensing platform from the ground up. They quickly realized the scope of the project. "We considered building our own licensing platform, but we quickly realized the huge time investment it would require. Moonbase already solved all the challenges of software licensing, so it was an easy choice for us to build our plugins using Moonbase."

Building a complete system meant tackling payment processing, serial number generation, distribution, authorization, subscription management, and integration with their plugins. That was engineering effort diverted away from audio innovation, their core strength.

The decision

James took a practical approach. Instead of reading marketing pages and comparing feature lists, he and his team bought plugins from other developers who were already using Moonbase. They tested the user experience firsthand. "We looked around the industry and purchased a few plugins from other developers who were using Moonbase to test the user experience. The Moonbase purchase and authorization process was so smooth that we wanted to offer the same experience for our users as well."

When they dug deeper, they found that "Moonbase was the only solution we found that offered a complete 360-degree software purchasing, distribution, and licensing system."

The confirmation came when they ran it in their own plugins. "The moment we tested the purchase and authorization system in our own plugins sealed the deal. Everything just worked, and it was so easy to set up."

Implementation

Setup moved quickly. "Setting up Moonbase was incredibly simple. Within a few hours we had the entire licensing system working within the plugin and on our website. It was incredibly easy."

Sync Audio now uses Moonbase for all licensing, subscriptions, and storefront functionality across their plugin lineup, starting with Fractiv and MegaMod.

What changed

The most significant change was time saved. By adopting Moonbase, James and his team avoided months of development work building infrastructure that already existed. Every hour they didn't spend building a licensing system was an hour they could spend on audio tools.

Where they are now

Sync Audio is currently working on MegaMod, a plugin that attaches a modulation rack to any other plugin. In James's words: "Every EQ in the world becomes a fully dynamic EQ. Every saturator can now be envelope controlled. Every plugin you already own just became more powerful. We have even more innovative new features coming soon to MegaMod."

With Moonbase handling the commercial side, they're free to focus on what they do best.
