Using your own licensing platform

While we believe our software licensing features make for one of the best platforms out there, with full customer self-service and rich integrations, it's not for everyone, and maybe you are not willing to migrate just yet.

Launched today is our new support for external licensing platforms where Moonbase will fulfill products sold in your store with licenses from remote APIs or from pre-uploaded key code lists. With this, Moonbase is truly a platform where you can pick and choose which parts you want to use, or offload to other systems.

Key code lists

Most of our early adopters have been merchants who can pre-generate batches of key codes for their software to be sold through Moonbase. This is the easiest way to get going too, and you can start today by choosing the key code generator on your Moonbase product:

Once selected, you can upload as many codes as you wish, and they will be issued to purchasing customers sequentially.

Remote APIs

If you instead wish to generate licenses on-demand, you may opt to use our remote API generator. By default, it will be using our modern JSON-based remote calls with HMAC security signatures to prevent forged requests, but we've built a number of compatibility modes to make migrating from other e-commerce platforms easier. So if you've already built APIs to handle requests from MyCommerce, Fastspring or others, give those a try if you want to cut down on development time.

Customer journey

The user experience of the customer is always a keystone in everything we build here at Moonbase, and external licensing support is not different. When selling products configured with external licensing, any license codes generated will be included in order receipt emails, as well as your Moonbase powered customer portal, including the embeddable one:
